Day 3

Well, I've had a little slip.  Let me set the scene for you.  I'm sitting on the couch around 9pm after putting Thomas to bed.  My mouth and stomach are seeking something delicious since we had dinner at 4:30.  Eric comes down the stairs after saying goodnight to Thomas.  He goes into the kitchen.  He brings the leftover pumpkin pie to the couch with two forks.  I cannot resist and I eat some of that pie.

In my defense, pumpkin pie has only 17 grams of sugar per serving, far less than a container of yogurt, which often has the same amount as ice cream.

Thomas ate some pumpkin pie at breakfast and I gave him a pass since I consider it to be a somewhat healthy food.  He loves pumpkin pie and it is the only kind of pie that he eats.

Eric is doing pretty good except that he drinks multiple cups of tea during the day all with a teaspoon of sugar.

But today's a new day!  Thomas got our Christmas decorations down out of storage before I was out of bed this morning.  Our tree is looking very nice.

I want to welcome the new members to our sugar detox party: Stephanie, Wendy and Lucy.  They join us: Eric, Thomas, me, Linda, Colleen, Cosmin (?), Rose, and my mom Barbara.  All of you should feel free to comment on this blog.  I am very interested in how you are all doing.

  1. Lucy decided on Saturday that we should join forces with the Goodells, and I have to say I was quite depressed at first. How is it that my 9 year old was more able than myself to not only notice how over sugared she's been lately, but to want to do something about it?! Her cousins are doing a no-added sugar diet for a YEAR, but a week feels a bit more manageable.

We did some purging over the weekend, sending (most) of the leftover Halloween candy to dad's classroom, donating some leftover gourmet cookies to some local homeless folks, and, admittedly, eating some tasty morsels before no sugar day, today.

We bought Lucy an overpriced chocolate-filled advent calendar last week, and agreed she could eat the day's piece and not have it count against her, so she's starting off each day with a burst of sugar. For my part, no added sugar yet... but to be fair it's not yet noon.
