Day 10

Well, we've finally come to the end.  Only a few hours left.  Its been difficult for me, but not impossible.

The hardest parts are the unexpected offerings.  When Eric is offered those cookies at work, he eats them.  When Thomas sees that bubble gum in my purse, he really wants a piece.  The mom who carpools Thomas offered him trip to the ice cream store.  He declined and told her and his friend about his sugar de-tox.

So my downfalls were eating some pumpkin pie and I had a little bit of honey in my tea last night. I really wanted it.

I had a '5 grams of sugar' Kind bar before working out this week.  It was heavenly.  And that's what I'm hoping I take away from this:  I will be satisfied with less sugar as being sweet treat.  That my sweet tooth has diminished slightly.  I have visions of going to my favorite french bakery tomorrow and getting my favorite overpriced chocolate eclair.  But I think I'm going to hold off.  I'm going to try to stick with it and eat less sweet.

Thomas has done super well.  He hasn't seemed to miss his sugar as much as I have.  Its like he really wants the sugar when he sees it, but otherwise, he's fine.  Tonight we're going to a restaurant and not getting a soda.  That's hard for Thomas.  But he doesn't long for sugar during the day like I do.

In the end, I'm glad I did my sugar de-tox.  I certainly don't miss my "sugar crashes" which I can really feel at times.  I don't have that up and down feeling when I don't eat sugar.
What about you?

Day 6

I would really really REALLY like a hot fudge sundae right now.  I wanted one last night during the bewitching hour too but I had to settle for some dried apricots.

Yesterday, Thomas really wanted a piece of Halloween candy when he arrived home and started to watch a show.  That's his bewitching hour.  So he decided to put a quarter in the jar and have a candy.

I asked Eric if he had partaken in any donuts at work and yes, he had one.

I really haven't eaten any extra sugar, besides a spoon in my coffee, and its been hard.

Day 3

Well, I've had a little slip.  Let me set the scene for you.  I'm sitting on the couch around 9pm after putting Thomas to bed.  My mouth and stomach are seeking something delicious since we had dinner at 4:30.  Eric comes down the stairs after saying goodnight to Thomas.  He goes into the kitchen.  He brings the leftover pumpkin pie to the couch with two forks.  I cannot resist and I eat some of that pie.

In my defense, pumpkin pie has only 17 grams of sugar per serving, far less than a container of yogurt, which often has the same amount as ice cream.

Thomas ate some pumpkin pie at breakfast and I gave him a pass since I consider it to be a somewhat healthy food.  He loves pumpkin pie and it is the only kind of pie that he eats.

Eric is doing pretty good except that he drinks multiple cups of tea during the day all with a teaspoon of sugar.

But today's a new day!  Thomas got our Christmas decorations down out of storage before I was out of bed this morning.  Our tree is looking very nice.

I want to welcome the new members to our sugar detox party: Stephanie, Wendy and Lucy.  They join us: Eric, Thomas, me, Linda, Colleen, Cosmin (?), Rose, and my mom Barbara.  All of you should feel free to comment on this blog.  I am very interested in how you are all doing.

Day 1

We ran into an unexpected gigantic temptation:  They were giving out free donuts (AKA Do Nots) at the game store.  Thomas was underfed and needed lunch.  He resisted for a very long time before he succumbed to a delicious chocolate covered cake donut.  Eric did not and I did not but it wasn't a difficult temptation for me as I don't have a sweet spot for donuts.
Thomas gave me his dollar for the jar.  He says he's still getting that money.

Thanksgiving Day

The pumpkin pie with whipped cream has been eaten.  I am ready.  Thomas is ready. Eric is well, we'll see.

Thomas has decided that we must sweeten the deal in order to be successful: he wants cash involved.  We have made a money jar.  If someone eats sugar, they have to put a dollar in the jar.  Whoever has put in the least money on the 10th day will win the jar of money.

We had to negotiate about the spoonful of sugar that I will put in my coffee each morning.  Thomas feels its unfair that I do that without paying but that he cannot put chocolate syrup on his spaghetti free of charge.  So we agreed that I would pay a quarter for each spoonful.  We're starting with a dollar just for good measure.

Good luck! And welcome to day 1.
